Its so important as a creative to refresh, inspire and invest in education, to them be able to bring your best self and work to your clients and photography. Here is the second installment of my trip to New York, where I attended the Brooklyn WRKSHP for wedding photographers. These are three classes that truly blew me away. From Tonhya Wysong’s live shot: ‘Boudoir That Doesn’t Suck’, Sara Byrne’s real couple session on ‘Interaction & Direction’, and finishing off with ‘Death to Prom Poses’ with the charismatic Lindsey Roman. I left feeling completely refreshed and motivated to apply all this goodness on my upcoming sessions. With each live shoot, we were met with kind, authentic, loved up couples too, making the experience all that more genuine and free-flowing.
Biggest Take Away
Tonya’s class is the shoot that I took on a whim, and I’m so glad I did. Because, as a wedding photographer, it can sometimes become easy to fall into familiar patterns, sticking to your ‘genre’. This class really brought me out of my comfort zone, having never photographed boudoir before. It’s such a slower pace than any wedding or couples shoot, as a result it really brings you face to face with a sort of mesmerizing stillness and vibe in the room, from light, details and of course your subject.
Above all, it really was a pleasure taking this class, especially hearing Tonhya’s honest, down to earth guidance and approach, along with our stunning model for the day. I couldn’t have asked for better lessons in expanding your craft. To take risks for your art and ultimately, climbing higher for your couples and the experience that comes out of those days, capturing life unfold.
Here are some of my favorites from each shoot, so excited to share them, hope you enjoy!
