No one expected what 2020 would bring. It was such a shock being in Spain visiting my parents when president Trudeau announced the borders were soon closing. Asaf and I spent a hectic 24hrs trying to find me a flight home. Even after I boarded one of the last international planes back to Toronto, my heart was still thumping so loudly. It was almost a relief to be in self-quarantine at home after touch down, taking in the quiet, and turning off the news.
After a couple of weeks though, it was time to begin venturing outside. But by that time, Toronto had become silent too. While I do try and bring positive stories, ones of joy and love to my work, sometimes it’s just necessary to document the palpable feeling in the air, even if it’s one of sorrow and solace.
I spent a few hours driving around the city with my camera out the window. Here’s a little series from those images in April, some street photography during the Covid-19 pandemic.
