Aeri told me over pancakes about how Hong and her had been set up on a blind date. She went in with the standard expectations you get from being on the dating scene, pretty basic. They met at an Italian place downtown and although the food was delish, they ended up spending the first-hour talking, forgetting all about the pizza and spaghetti they’d ordered.
It wasn’t long before they were calling their families back in Korea to share the great news of their engagement. Seeing Aeri with Hong, it’s clear to see she has found someone as quirky, kind and wonderful as she is.
So it was no surprise we had a blast during our mini photo session before their ceremony. We meet on a chilly morning surrounded by the city’s Christmas fair and went to get a coffee before it was time to head to Toronto City Hall for their wedding. They wanted something sweet and simple. So after the exchange of laughs, kisses, and rings, we headed with a small clan of their closest friends and family to have, you guessed it, some amazing Italian food at their fav restaurant.
Taking it Way Back
Aeri and I actually go way back…back to when we were in our early 20s volunteering on a Kibbutz (which I would later come to call home). She was always so sweet and had a lot of sass too. We worked in the early mornings, folding sheets at the laundry mate and after a hard day’s work, would head to the big lake, which was literally our backyard, to have a dip.
There are so many great memories with this girl. And like many others at that age, we connected with our love for travel. So to find ourselves over ten years later, on the other side of the planet, you can’t help but love how small our world actually is. Both our journeys brought us to Toronto, where we now call this great city home. And I am so grateful and honored that I was chosen to be their wedding photographer, and to have had such a wonderful couple to start off this year in Canada!
