When its nearing the end of summer, there’s a gentleness in the air and it can be a wonderful time to start new journeys. Christian had these very sentiments, deciding to ask his girlfriend of 4 years to marry him.
I love hearing how people met, but what makes a surprise proposal so special, is getting to see those relationships get upped to the next level! To be a true witness to that instance where Judy went from looking at Christian as her boyfriend, to the man she will call her husband, is pretty epic and why I love capturing these moments.
And what made this proposal even more epic, was Christian’s attention and planning to detail! After being in touch, we quickly started to brainstorm ideas on location, and how to get Judy to Toronto Island ‘a la natural’. From deciding on a city-wide scavenger hunt, to having his best friend as wingman, placing envelopes with clues across the city, it was a plan and a half to say the least. Excitement was in the air!
The date itself was special too. Four years from their scavenger hunt day, Chrisitan and Judy went on their first date to the Distillery District in downtown Toronto. It was fun and romantic and he even included the neighborhood in their scavenger hunt. As they went from spot to spot, they got updates via phone to let them know their ‘Amazing Race’ (one of their favorite shows) was getting closer to the finish line.
Judy smiled and laughed as she saw Christian getting more and more energetic during what she thought, was a company arranged race. After a handle full of clues and some familiar spots, they sat chatting, enjoying the perfect sunny day as the ferry took them over to Toronto Island. On the other side, Christians’ best friend Francisco was setting up the sweetest picnic, which included a little blue box, holding a very special ring.
As they stepped off the boat and read their last clue, we all scampered into our hiding spots, waiting for them to stroll down the small streets of the Islands quaint neighborhood, and come around the corner.
Judy had the biggest smile when she saw they had won, and the picnic for two was theirs! Little did she know, that in a few moments of sitting down, Chrisitan would be topping this moment.
And as she read a heartfelt note he has written to her, Chrisitan took the small blue box out from the basket, and got down on one knee. I could hear Judys scream of joy as she realized what was happening. It was magic in a moment. After saying yes and having a few minutes to take it all in, I came to say hi and we laughed and spoke about what an epic plan it had been.
With that, champagne was popped in celebration of their engagement, and a lot of hugs and kisses before we set off for a little mini-adventure around the Island, to capture this milestone for them both, with a little engagement session on Toronto Island.
