This fall, Jerome was in touch about organizing photos for the surprise proposal to his girlfriend of 8 years, Chelsea. As they were going on holiday to Mexico the following day, Jerome thought it would be a perfect way to not only send them off on their trip but also, when Chelsea would least suspect it!
As they walked to one of their favorite restaurants, Jerome ‘noticed’ the carousel was open and suggested they go on a ride. On this chilly evening, I was sat with other workers in the operations booth as a ‘ticket person’, with the heater blasting next to us, we were all giggling with nervous excitement as they casually entered holding hands and chatting. We had hashed out the details, and I knew once the last round came in front of the operation booth, as they sat in the red carriage that Jerome had picked out especially, he would go to help Chelsea out and while he lent a hand, he would get to one knee.
Suddenly Drake’s voice came onto the speaker, singing one of their favorite songs, in this moment, Jerome looked to Chelsea with a small box in hand. She sat stunned for a few seconds and said yes with the biggest smile. Chelsea would spend the rest of the evening looking down at her hand, then back to Jerome with a grin from ear to ear. But little did she know, this was just part of the surprise. Jerome had also arranged for all of their closest friends to come and celebrate with them, champagne in hand! It was emotional, lovely and overwhelming to say the least. Jerome had arranged a true Toronto fun fair themed celebration, with this beautiful and quirky merry-go-round, an old-time popcorn machine and cotton candy, with words adorn on them such as: Now & Forever.
After the excitement of seeing everyone and sipping on some bubbly, Jerome and Chelsea made their way back to the carousel where they both shared what they loved most about each other and their relationship. It was a great time to really put into words all the love they had for each other in celebration of their engagement.
And in Jerome’s own words, a little about how they came to meet through a very young version of Facebook, 8 years ago! “We met after a friend unintentionally introduced us through Facebook. For a year we used MSN to talk, within 2 years we were together after finding each other in the same class at Ryerson University. As school and part-time jobs took most of our time we found ways to make our dates a different adventure. Our first date consisted of skating at Nathan Phillips square and ventured on to spontaneously stopping at random bus stops to find a cool restaurant to share a bite.”
Scroll down to see how it all came together and Chelsea’s surprise, both times!
“Every day we have laughed together and grown together to support one another. We’ve been together for 8 years and love each other more and more every day.”
